Net Metering Philippines 2026:
The Complete Homeowner's Guide

"Ito ang sikreto para mag-negative ang Meralco bill mo."

What is Net Metering?

Net Metering is a consumer-based renewable energy program established under RA 9513 (Renewable Energy Act of 2008). It allows Filipino homeowners with solar systems (up to 100kW) to "sell" their excess electricity back to the grid.

When your solar panels produce more power than you use during the day, the excess flows back to your utility provider (like Meralco). Your meter literally records the export, and you receive credits that offset your monthly bill during nighttime when you use the grid.

How much do you earn back per kWh?

Utility Provider Avg. Buyback Rate (2026)
Meralco (NCR/Luzon) ₱6.80 – ₱7.20 / kWh
VECO (Cebu) ₱6.10 – ₱6.50 / kWh
DLPC (Davao) ₱5.90 – ₱6.30 / kWh
MORE Power (Iloilo) ₱5.50 – ₱5.90 / kWh

Step-by-Step Application (Meralco)

1

Letter of Intent

Submit your formal request to your local Meralco Business Center or via the online portal.

2

Fixed Cost (Application Fee)

Pay the processing and technical inspection fees (typically ranges from ₱1,500 - ₱2,500).

3

Technical Evaluation

Meralco engineers will visit your site to verify your system's safety and anti-islanding features.

4

Meter Replacement

Your standard meter is replaced with a bi-directional "Net Meter" that tracks both consumption and export.

Requirements & Documents Needed

  • Certified Electrical Plan
  • CFEI (Inspection Certificate)
  • Yellow Card (from City Hall)
  • Inverter Test Report
  • Valid ID of Registered Owner
  • Latest Electricity Bill

Realistic Timeline

30–60 Days

Average time from initial application to bi-directional meter installation.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Using non-grid-tie inverters

Off-grid inverters that lack anti-islanding protection will be immediately rejected by utility engineers for safety reasons.

Skipping the LGU permit

You must secure a building/electrical permit from your local Office of the Building Official (OBO) before applying to Meralco.
